We create a brand new video experience on-board the Congo River Rapids
HIDEAWAY Studios Group recently took on raging rapids and water cannons to create a video tour of one of the Alton Tower’s central attractions.
Continuing our long-standing relationship with the resort, we journeyed on the Congo River Rapids to create an immersive 360° video tour of the park’s premier water ride.
Located in the Katanga Canyon area of the theme park, the rapids take thrill seekers on a course of choppy waters, twin waterfalls and a near pitch-black tunnel – seriously challenging conditions to capture a 360° video.
To achieve the best possible results, two members of our fully qualified and experienced team spent a day at the resort and worked with staff to safely and securely mount the bespoke video rig to a raft, ensuring a rock-steady picture against the harsh currents of the ride.
Using our unique post-production methods, our editing team were meticulous in ensuring the final video lived up to the ride itself, carefully adjusting settings to counter the lighting changes and sharp movements of the rapids to create the best possible viewing experience.
This project marks the first time that a 360° video has been created at the resort and it has already created quite a buzz with theme park fans and thrill seekers.
Alton Towers have shared the video through their various social media channels, with the video racking up thousands of views already and being shared across the world.
The resort is only of many Merlin Attractions that we have worked at, the list also including Legoland, Chessington World of Adventures and Sea Life, amongst others.
Our video work for the group includes covering the launch of the Vengeance 5D ride at the London Dungeon and producing a short documentary on the opening of a new Sea Life centre.
We have also captured some of Alton Towers’ biggest rollercoasters, using time-lapse capture to document the dismantling of the iconic Corkscrew, as well as the construction of Th13teen and The Smiler.
Some of the further video work we have completed for the resort includes the launch of Nemesis: Sub-Terra, as well as shooting in the dark at the park’s annual Halloween event “Scarefest” and even an hour-long documentary about the theme park.
The Hideaway team continues to enjoy working at one of the country’s major leisure and tourist destinations. Find out more about the various film and video services that we provide – including 360° video and photography – by visiting our services page.
